Future loss of earning capacity for a plaintiff with reduced life expectancy must be calculated over the period the plaintiff would have earned income at normal life expectancy, not the reduced life expectancy. Home-based care awards for catastrophic quadriplegia are justified only where the plaintiff has particular and special needs, there is strong evidence supporting home care, and the defendant fails to adequately prove the cost and adequacy of institutional care. A physically disabled but mentally competent plaintiff is entitled to fund management fees for the rest of her life where the magnitude of the award compels engagement of professional advisers and physical immobility creates additional costs.
