A provisional liquidator's extended powers do not enlarge the scope of the office beyond preservation of the status quo, and remuneration will be disallowed for work outside that scope including unnecessary creditors' meetings, preparation of directors' statements of affairs, s476 reports, and applications to wind up the company. Where a provisional liquidator utilises an associated firm under a profit-sharing arrangement, the fiduciary duty to the company requires that remuneration allowed not exceed what the associated firm agreed to accept, excluding any profit element for the liquidator's own firm. The standing of a provisional liquidator to apply for winding up under s462(2) is doubtful.
