The relationship of stepchild/step-parent under Part 4 of the Succession Act 1981 (Qld) terminates upon the death of the natural parent who was the deceased's spouse. A person whose natural parent predeceased the step-parent is not a 'stepchild' of the step-parent at the date of the step-parent's death and cannot apply for family provision under s 41.
