Section 157(2) of the Penalties and Sentences Act 1992 (Qld) only authorises a court to attach a parole recommendation to the sentence it is currently imposing; it does not permit a court to add or alter a parole recommendation attached to a sentence previously imposed by another court. Section 157(3) cannot operate to make a 'fresh' parole recommendation where no prior recommendation existed. Where statutory constraints prevent direct adjustment of parole recommendations, the court may record an offender's cooperation with authorities and direct that reasons be provided to assist in applications for early parole under s 166(4) of the Corrective Services Act 1988.
