A sentence of six and a half years for dangerous driving causing death while affected by methylamphetamine at extreme levels is within the sentencing range. The approach to sentencing for dangerous driving causing death since Byrne is plainly more severe, influenced by the amended s 9 of the Penalties and Sentences Act 1992 (Qld) emphasising public safety. An effective total sentence of eight years with parole after three years for a combination of fatal dangerous driving, threatening violence, and multiple property offences is not manifestly excessive.
