An extension of time to appeal will be refused where the appellant admitted guilt, the sentence has expired, the delay was partly a matter of choice, and the principal legal ground is unsound. Where experienced counsel failed to object to evidence at trial on entrapment grounds, the Court of Criminal Appeal will not ordinarily interfere, even if the Ridgeway discretion might otherwise have been engaged.
