The discount for assistance to authorities in drug importation cases ranges between 20 and 50 per cent, with the upper end appropriate where the offender provides full and frank statements and undertakes to give evidence against co-accused. The adjustment for absence of remissions under s 16G of the Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) should flow on to the non-parole period, and a non-parole period exceeding 75 per cent of the head sentence is appropriate only for very serious cases.
