Intercepted telephone conversations and listening device recordings that reveal negotiations for supply at agreed prices, complaints about quality of previous consignments, and discussions of profit constitute cogent evidence of carrying on the business of trafficking in dangerous drugs. A person trafficking in more than one kind of drug may be convicted of the single continuing offence under s 5(1). An accused's explanation that drug-dealing conversations were merely an attempt to recover a debt does not negate the offence if the accused was prepared to engage in buying, selling and supplying drugs for that purpose.
