The word 'installation' in cl 3A(1)(t) of the Queensland Building Services Authority Regulation 1992 bears a broad meaning encompassing all necessary work to produce the installation, including off-site fabrication and on-site erection of supporting structures. Work in fabricating and erecting steel structures to support pipeline and manufacturing equipment at industrial facilities falls within the exclusion from 'building work' and does not require a building licence. Where a contract contains both excluded installation work and a minor component of building work (such as shelter construction), the contract is severable and the unlawful undertaking does not infect the whole contract.
