A plea of guilty does not necessarily warrant a substantial sentencing discount; the extent of any discount depends on all relevant circumstances including the strength of the Crown case, the timing of the plea, whether admissions were made, and whether the plea reflects genuine remorse. Discrete and unconnected offences committed over a short period may justify a relatively high degree of cumulation, particularly where the offender's criminal history demonstrates a continuing attitude of disobedience to the law.
