An occupier may be found negligent for failing to provide safe access to an area of the property where an invited entrant is expected to go, even where the occupier is unaware of a specific defect, if the overall means of access poses a foreseeable risk of injury. The principles in Stannus v Graham regarding unknown defects should not be construed and applied like the words of a statute.
