Bag snatching with any element of violence ordinarily requires a full-time custodial sentence absent exceptional circumstances. An offender's emotional distress at the prospect of imprisonment is not a mitigating factor and is irrelevant to the sentencing exercise. The residual discretion to dismiss a Crown appeal may be exercised even where manifest inadequacy is established, having regard to double jeopardy, time served, and compliance with existing conditions.
