The accepted sentencing range for maintaining a sexual relationship with a child under 12 with aggravating circumstances in Queensland is 10-12 years. Prior sexual offending significantly diminishes the weight to be given to mitigating factors such as pleas of guilty, remorse, and voluntary psychiatric treatment. Once the head sentence reaches 10 years for offences attracting automatic serious violent offence declarations, the inability to recommend parole is not a legitimate basis for reducing the head sentence.
