An acquittal on one count does not necessarily render convictions on other counts unsafe where the circumstances of the alleged offences were different, even where the same witnesses gave evidence on all counts. Minor irregularities at trial that were not objected to by defence counsel and were addressed by the trial judge's directions will not individually or cumulatively amount to a miscarriage of justice. A co-offender convicted of twice as many offences but sentenced to a lesser term creates a legitimate sense of grievance warranting reduction of the more severe sentence to achieve parity.
