A winding up application will not be adjourned where the company is hopelessly insolvent with no prospect of trading again, even where a director proposes to inject personal funds and a majority of unsecured creditors support an adjournment. The court distinguished cases where adjournments were granted on the basis that those companies had realistic prospects of recovery through asset sales, share calls, or reconstruction, whereas the respondent's position was hopeless.
