Evidence that an offender was sexually abused as a child is relevant to sentencing where there is expert evidence connecting the abuse to the offending conduct, as it bears on moral culpability and rehabilitation. However, it does not excuse the offending, and the weight to be given to it depends on the facts of each case. A sentencing judge is not entitled to disregard unchallenged and uncontradicted expert evidence that is inherently reasonable and probable.
