In cases of prolonged intra-family sexual molestation of children involving multiple complainants, the absence of penetration does not lead to a markedly different sentencing result. Good antecedents, contrition, and steps towards rehabilitation cannot be weighty mitigatory factors in such cases. A sentencing range of 7-9 years before discount for multiple offences of indecent dealing with children under 16 known to be lineal relatives, committed over prolonged periods against three complainants, is within the appropriate range.
