In workers' compensation claims where a worker suffers a subsequent non-work injury before fully recovering from a compensable workplace injury, the correct question is whether the subsequent incapacity 'resulted from' the earlier compensable disability, not whether the subsequent condition is a 'continuation' of or 'fresh injury' distinct from the earlier disability. The earlier compensable injury need only be a material contributing cause of the subsequent incapacity; it need not be the sole cause. The binary 'fresh injury vs recurrence' framework from Canale v Commissioner of Main Roads is not the correct test for determining whether incapacity resulted from an earlier disability.
