A sentence of 18 months imprisonment (8 months NPP) for aggravated break, enter and steal of an occupied dwelling at night, committed while on bail and involving a degree of planning, was manifestly inadequate. The effect upon the victim is relevant as an index of the gravity of the crime, and where the consequences of a domestic burglary upon the victim are predictable, the sentencing judge should not discount them on the basis that the offender did not have a reasonable expectation of those consequences.
