Large-scale commercial cannabis growing and processing operations involving substantial capital, expertise, and quantities of cannabis (here 7.9 kg with estimated street value of $36,000-$54,000) require sentences of immediate imprisonment; suspension of such sentences will be set aside as manifestly wrong where the sentencing judge has given insufficient weight to objective criminality and deterrence while placing undue emphasis on unremarkable personal circumstances. An omission in the reasons for judgment regarding the correct maximum penalty provision does not require correction of the sentence under s 37 of the Sentencing Act 1995 (WA) where the omission had no effect on the sentence actually imposed.
