Where multiple armed robberies are committed as part of a single series of criminal events over a discrete period, the totality principle requires a degree of partial concurrency in accumulated sentences. Sentences must adequately reflect strong subjective features including cooperation with police, early guilty pleas, remorse, drug rehabilitation efforts and prospects of rehabilitation. Co-offenders with different prior criminal records should receive differentiated sentences reflecting the principle of proportionality, even where their participation in the offences was equal.
