The offence of accessory after the fact to murder is limited to assistance which helps the principal offender to evade justice (being apprehended, tried, or suffering punishment). Assistance in obtaining the fruits of the crime does not constitute the offence, though it may be relevant context for sentencing. A 50% global discount for plea of guilty, remorse and substantial assistance to authorities (giving evidence at the principal offender's trial) was held not unreasonably disproportionate to the gravity of the offence.
