The Queensland Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against conviction, holding that the jury's acquittal on two counts of indecent treatment was not inconsistent with conviction on two counts of rape, as there was a logical explanation for the differing verdicts and the acquittals did not constitute a finding that the complainant was dishonest or inherently unreliable so as to taint her credibility on the other counts. The Court also held that the verdicts were not unreasonable notwithstanding a five-year delay in complaint, absence of corroboration, and the complainant's disclosure of uncharged acts during cross-examination, where the trial judge gave adequate directions including on the potential impact of those new allegations on credibility.
