The seriousness of an armed robbery offence does not by itself demand a sentence of immediate imprisonment. Where the circumstances of the offence are bizarre and nonsensical, the offender has no relevant prior convictions, is young, in steady employment, voluntarily pursuing drug rehabilitation, and has pleaded guilty early with genuine remorse, a suspended sentence may be appropriate notwithstanding the gravity of armed robbery.
