Where voice comparison evidence involves comparing recordings of an admitted voice with recordings of a disputed voice (like with like), the warnings required by Bulejcik and Domican regarding the dangers of human perception and recollection may not be applicable in the same form as in cases involving comparison of a live voice with a recording. However, some cautionary direction about the care needed in making such comparisons is desirable, particularly where the conversations are in a foreign language. A sentence of 12 years' imprisonment is an appropriate starting point for knowingly being concerned in the importation of approximately 135 grams of pure heroin where the offender played a major role.
