Fines of $10,000 per contempt ($30,000 total) were imposed for failure to attend a Royal Commission, refusal to be sworn, and leaving without release, where the contemnor subsequently apologised and undertook to cooperate. Without such apology and cooperation, imprisonment would have been imposed. The ten-factor framework from Wood v Staunton [No 5] and Gilby was adopted as the applicable sentencing framework for contempt of Royal Commissions in Western Australia.
