A trial judge who summarises evidence but fails to make findings on credibility or the correctness of medical opinions, and reaches bare conclusions without explaining why unchallenged evidence was rejected, provides inadequate reasons warranting a new trial. The appellate court cannot itself reassess damages where credibility findings are required.
