A motorist who observes a pedestrian stop at the centre of the road and look directly at the approaching vehicle is entitled to assume the pedestrian will wait for the vehicle to pass. The pedestrian's unexpected resumption of crossing in those circumstances is not reasonably foreseeable, and the driver is not negligent for failing to slow or take other evasive action before the pedestrian moves.
