Kidnapping for advantage involving systematic detention over four days, repeated beatings with weapons, threats with firearms, and extortion places the objective criminality at about the mid-point of the statutory range, not the lower to medium end. Playing a significant but not principal role in such an enterprise calls for correspondingly significant punishment. Sentences of 20% of the statutory maximum for kidnapping and 4% for grievous bodily harm with intent were manifestly inadequate in such circumstances.
