A trial judge is not required in all cases to give a specific direction that the Crown must negative the possibility of possession by someone other than the accused. The adequacy of directions on the element of exclusivity in possession depends on the particular circumstances and the issue for the jury. Where the directions include reference to exclusivity, full directions on burden and standard of proof, and a detailed evidence summary, the directions may be adequate without a specific emphasis on negativing others' possession.
