A bare denial is insufficient to discharge the evidentiary onus on a respondent to a summary judgment application where the applicant's evidence gives rise to an irresistible inference; specific evidence addressing the inference is required. A court may correct a judgment before formal entry under the slip rule (UCPR r 388), UCPR r 667(2)(d), or inherent jurisdiction where the judgment was based on a mistaken belief about agreed facts.
