Where offences of lesser seriousness are committed as auxiliary to or to facilitate a more serious offence, and the aggravating features of those auxiliary offences have already been reflected in the sentence for the most serious offence, cumulation of significant proportions of the sentences on the auxiliary counts will amount to double sentencing and offend the totality principle. The most serious offence should generally be used as the base count for cumulation.
