Mats or similar objects left on the floor of a commercial foyer in a location where they are partially obscured and would not be anticipated by entrants are not part of the 'normal risks of everyday living' and their presence may constitute a breach of the occupier's duty of care. The nature of the floor surface and the environment is critical to assessing whether an entrant should have anticipated the hazard.
