A sentence of 7 years with a 5-year non-parole period for robbery in company involving a planned bank robbery by five offenders, committed while on parole shortly after release for the same type of offence, is not manifestly excessive. The R v Brown 'crushing sentence' approach must be applied with circumspection so as not to result in inadequate sentences that fail to reflect the offender's criminality.
