A sentencing judge is not required to specify a discrete discount for remorse or contrition where the plea of guilty, expressions of contrition and related considerations form a complex of inter-related factors; an attempt to separate out remorse for a nominated discount may be artificial and contrived. Sentences should ordinarily be backdated to the date of entry into custody where parole has been revoked, to avoid an element of double punishment.
