There is no closed category of offences for which less weight is given to prior good character on sentence; the approach extends to child pornography importation offences. Where the DPP has elected to prosecute on indictment, it would require a very clear case of inappropriate prosecution before the lost opportunity for summary disposal could provide an argument in mitigation. General deterrence is the paramount consideration in sentencing for importation of child pornography.
