Evidence of mental disease that does not establish insanity remains relevant and admissible on the issue of specific intent, but where the psychiatric evidence uniformly supports the formation of intent, a trial judge is not required to give further directions beyond drawing the jury's attention to the relevance of the mental illness to intent. The prosecution's duty to disclose material affecting the credibility of its witnesses extends to findings of professional disciplinary tribunals adverse to expert witnesses. Where wilful murder is directly caused by an acute episode of paranoid psychosis, and the offender has no prior history of violence and is susceptible to treatment, a minimum term at the lower end of the statutory range is appropriate. An unperfected order may be recalled where the court was led to make a finding based on an incorrect assertion of fact from the bar table.
