A sentence equivalent to 6 years' imprisonment under the former regime for an opportunistic robbery where the applicant was the driver (not the principal offender), pleaded guilty on the fast-track system, and demonstrated genuine rehabilitation efforts, was held to be beyond the customary sentencing range and manifestly excessive. The appropriate sentence under the former regime was 4 years, reduced to 2 years and 8 months under the transitional provisions.
