The unprovoked, spontaneous and unplanned nature of an offence properly falls for consideration in assessing objective seriousness for standard non-parole period purposes, not solely as a subjective factor. Extra-curial punishment in the form of minor injuries that heal within a fortnight does not constitute 'serious loss or detriment' requiring consideration in sentencing. Short delays between conviction and sentence caused by unavoidable matters and consent adjournments do not require a sentencing reduction, particularly where no submission was made at the sentencing hearing.
