A combined discount of 40% for a late plea of guilty and significant assistance to authorities (including serving sentence in protection and risk upon release) is within the permissible range for supply of a large commercial quantity of heroin. The sentencing judge is not bound by the descriptive words used by police to characterise the level of assistance. Differences in role (principal vs courier) and criminal history are sufficient to negate a parity argument between co-offenders.
