The Court of Criminal Appeal will not reduce an otherwise appropriate sentence on parity grounds where the co-offender's sentence was inadequate. A justifiable sense of grievance is unlikely to arise from the imposition of an inadequate sentence on a co-offender. Quantifying the increase in sentence for Form 1 matters, while generally inappropriate, does not of itself demonstrate error if the resulting sentence is within range. A non-parole period exceeding 75% of the total sentence does not require special reasons; the statutory constraint under s 44 only operates when the ratio falls below 75%.
