Depression that is treated with medication and counselling does not, without more, constitute a severe psychiatric condition sufficient to warrant reducing the weight of general deterrence in sentencing for child sexual assault offences. The consent of a child victim provides little mitigation where there is a significant age disparity between offender and victim. Internet procurement of child victims for sexual offences will be treated with particular severity.
