A sentence of 12 years imprisonment for maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child under 16 is not manifestly excessive where the offending involved a young child, prolonged period, many occasions of intercourse, a protective relationship, emotional blackmail, no mitigating factors, and prior sexual offence convictions. The mandatory serious violent offender declaration does not require sentencing at the lower end of the appropriate range.
