A non-parole period of two years within a three-year head sentence for recklessly causing serious injury by stabbing is not manifestly excessive where the offender has strong mitigating factors but the offence involved alcohol-fuelled violence, the offender sought out the victim, and the injuries were life-threatening. The sentencing judge is not required to give separate reasons for fixing the non-parole period where the circumstances do not call for it.
