Overtaking another vehicle in heavy fog on a country road, even at or below the speed limit, can constitute negligent driving of the quality necessary for culpable driving where visibility is so reduced that collision with oncoming traffic is virtually guaranteed. A verdict of guilty on culpable driving is not necessarily inconsistent with acquittal on negligently causing serious injury where the jury could properly have found the victim's injuries did not meet the 'serious injury' threshold.
