A person who pleads guilty for personal reasons such as a desire to reconcile with the complainant or to avoid fighting in court has not suffered a miscarriage of justice merely because those reasons later prove misguided. Fresh evidence going to the character or conduct of the complainant that does not disclose a viable defence to the charge is irrelevant to whether a guilty plea should be set aside.
