A domestic relationship for the purposes of s 6(a)(ii) of the Family Provision Act 1982 (NSW) does not necessarily cease when one party is hospitalised, provided the other party remains attendant and continues to perform tasks on behalf of the hospitalised person. An award of $425,000 from a $1.5 million estate to an adult companion with no competing claims was upheld as within the range of reasonable provision.
