Particulars of contextual truth imputations do not indicate the outer limits of what may be proved at trial; they indicate topics on which evidence may be led, and the full effect of evidence within the particulars may exceed what the bare particulars indicate. A strike-out of contextual imputations on the basis of inadequate particulars requires the particulars to fall so far short of supporting the truth of the imputations that the deficiency is clear. The availability of discovery and the possibility that trial evidence may expand on particulars are relevant considerations in resisting a strike-out application.
