An occupier of premises frequented by elderly persons must have regard to the possibility that some entrants may be inadvertent, thoughtless or careless, and cannot rely on all entrants taking reasonable steps for their own safety. A drop from a verandah to a non-flush ramp, combined with a steep gradient, can constitute a breach of duty and be causally connected to a fall even where the plaintiff was inattentive. Contributory negligence of 50% was assessed for failure to look where walking.
