Driving while unlicensed, in an unregistered vehicle, while on conditional liberty, and after consuming alcohol, constitutes a high degree of moral culpability for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm. However, established rehabilitation over a lengthy period between offence and sentence, combined with youth and absence of prior convictions, may justify the exercise of the residual discretion not to intervene on a Crown appeal even where the sentence is found to be manifestly inadequate.
